Mendizábal

Segunda Novela de la tercera serie de los Episodios Nacionales, describe la España desgarrada por la Primera Guerra Carlista y la Regencia de María Cristina. Su eje es el romántico Fernando Calpena, que aparece por primera vez en esta novela.

Benito Pérez Galdós (10 de mayo de 1843 - 4 de enero de 1920) fue un novelista realista español. Algunas autoridades lo consideran segundo después de Cervantes en estatura como novelista español. Fue la principal figura literaria en la España del siglo XIX. Galdós fue un escritor prolífico, publicó 31 novelas, 46 Episodios Nacionales (Episodios Nacionales), 23 obras de teatro y el equivalente a 20 volúmenes de ficción, periodismo y otros escritos más cortos. Sigue siendo popular en España, y los galdosistas (investigadores de Galdós) lo consideraron igual a España que Dickens, Balzac y Tolstoi. Tan recientemente como 1950, pocas de sus obras estaban disponibles traducidas al inglés, aunque poco a poco se hizo popular en el mundo anglófono.
