The Stolen White Elephant is a short story written by Mark Twain. In this detective story, the Siamese white elephant traveling from Siam to England has disappeared in New Jersey as a gift to the queen. The local police station intervenes to solve the mystery, but it all ends tragically.

Mark Twain, acting as speaker and author at the beginning of the story.
An old gentleman from a British civil servant in India who spoke to Twain by train and was in charge of transporting white elephants.
Chief Inspector Brandt, a detective tasked with finding lost elephants. He first heard about the missing elephant.
