Contos Fluminenses e Histórias da Meia-Noite

Contos Fluminenses, originalmente publicado em 1870, e Histórias da Meia-Noite, publicado em 1873, são os dois primeiros livros de contos de Machado de Assis, famoso escritor brasileiro. Nestes livros encontram-se alguns de seus contos que viriam a se tornar clássicos da literatura brasileira, como Miss Dollar e Ponto de Vista.

Joaquim Maria Machado de Assis, conhecido como Machado de Assis, Machado ou Bruxo do Cosme Velho, era um romancista, poeta, dramaturgo, escritor de histórias curtas e defensor do monarquismo. Considerado como o maior escritor de literatura brasileira, ele não ganhou ampla popularidade fora do Brasil em sua vida. Ele era multilingue, tendo aprendido francês, inglês, alemão e grego mais tarde, sozinho. As obras de Machado tiveram grande influência nas escolas literárias brasileiras do final do século XIX e início do século XX.
