Friedrich Wilhelms Christian Karl Ferdinand von Humboldt (22. Juni 1767 - 8. April 1835) war ein preußischer Philosoph, Regierungsbeamter, Diplomat und Gründer der Universität Berlin, die nach ihm (und seinem Bruder, dem Naturforscher Alexander von Humboldt) in Berlin benannt wurde 1949. Er ist besonders als Sprachwissenschaftler bekannt, der wichtige Beiträge zur Sprachphilosophie sowie zur Theorie und Praxis der Erziehung geleistet hat. Insbesondere gilt er als Architekt des preußischen Bildungssystems, das als Vorbild für Bildungssysteme in Ländern wie den Vereinigten Staaten und Japan herangezogen wurde.
